Daouda Gueye (PUR) se lance dans la course à la mairie de Dakar avant l’élection de lundi
On the eve of the election of Dakar's new mayor, scheduled for Monday, August 25, Daouda Gueye, fourth deputy mayor and member of the Unity and Rally Party (PUR), officially declared his candidacy. Supported by all of his party's municipal councilors and some allies on the council, he aims to succeed Ngoné Mbengue, positioning himself as a consensus candidate capable of uniting the assembly's diverse political sensitivities.

Recognized for his profile combining politics and innovation, Daouda Gueye, a graduate of Sciences Po Paris and winner of the BRICS Innovation Awards 2023 in Russia, has made his mark on the Dakar city hall as head of ICT and communications. He is behind the Dakar Innovation Days and the innovative "smart cemeteries" project, which emerged from a hackathon in April 2023, strengthening his stature in sustainable urban planning, both locally and internationally.
This candidacy comes in a tense political climate, following the ouster of Barthélémy Dias, with the ruling PASTEF party seeking to retake Dakar. Supported by his peers, Gueye is banking on his image as a unifier and his community commitment. Very active in the social life of the capital, he is perceived by his supporters as an experienced and innovative leader, ready to lead the prestigious city hall.
