Déthié Fall : « J’appliquerai une rigueur martiale avec les entreprises »
The Minister of Infrastructure, Déthié Fall, announced a radical change of course in the management of public works projects. Faced with Senegal's accumulated delays in infrastructure development, he promised rigorous, demanding, and transparent governance. "I will apply strict discipline to the companies," he said.
700 billion CFA francs to catch up
Recognizing the scale of the infrastructure deficit, the minister emphasizes that President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko have fully grasped the situation, agreeing to an investment of 700 billion CFA francs, despite a difficult economic context.
For Déthié Fall, this decision illustrates the government's commitment to breaking with past practices. "We need an infrastructure map to mark this break," the minister emphasized. He announced the upcoming national conference dedicated to mapping the country's infrastructure. The goal is to develop a comprehensive overview, avoid repeating past mistakes, and incorporate the evolving needs of different regions. This map will serve as the foundation for controlled, coordinated, and sustainable planning.
Addressing the relaunch of the PSD (Public Sector Development Program), the minister revealed that renegotiations had begun, but that the initially proposed costs were exorbitant. "We want to review everything, in accordance with the country's economic situation," he explained. He reiterated that it is impossible to build all of Senegal's roads overnight, but that there is a firm commitment to catching up on the infrastructure deficit, gradually and effectively.
Universities, health, territorial equity: strong announcements
Déthié Fall also promised significant achievements in universities, new investments in healthcare infrastructure, and a catch-up plan for disadvantaged areas, in order to achieve territorial equity. "All Senegalese deserve infrastructure in their communities."
Zero tolerance for mediocrity
The minister was firm on the quality and adherence to deadlines by the contracting companies. "Every cent allocated by the State will go where it is supposed to. Any company that fails will be prosecuted. If a company gives me an extension, I will withdraw."
He continued: "I don't need anyone's money. I'm paid enough. I don't know how long I'll be in this ministry, but the work will be done rigorously."
