Public Debt: Convergence of Republican Executives Demands Publication of Audit Reports
The Convergence of Republican Executives (CCR) met to examine the national political situation and to decide on the controversy surrounding Senegal's public debt between 2019 and 2024.
In a statement sent to Seneweb, the CCR welcomes the action taken by the pool of lawyers representing former President Macky Sall, who have officially contacted the Minister of Finance and Budget and the First President of the Court of Auditors in order to obtain the truth on this issue.
"The CCR supports this calm and responsible approach and demands an end to the despicable campaign of manipulation and disinformation that, for several months, has fueled confusion and weakened the economic stability of our country. Since his misleading announcement in September 2024 on the existence of a supposed 'hidden debt,' Ousmane Sonko has been holding the state hostage and weakening Senegal's economy with the cynical aim of smearing his opposition for strictly political ends. The consequences of these lies have dramatic repercussions on investor confidence, the health of the economy, the daily lives of the population, and the credibility of Senegal's signature. The disastrous choice to manipulate public debt statistics is irresponsible and a sellout of national sovereignty, as the government is placing Senegal in a position of vulnerability in relation to the financial markets," the press release reads.
"The disastrous choice to manipulate public debt statistics is irresponsible and a sell-out of national sovereignty," the statement continued, recalling that Macky Sall, "as a statesman concerned with transparency," himself called for the publication of debt data.
The CCR therefore calls on the government to make public the following official documents: the report on the situation of public finances from January 2019 to March 2024 drawn up by the General Inspectorate of Finance; the provisional report of the Chamber of Budgetary and Financial Affairs of the Court of Auditors and the audit report of the Forvis-Mazars firm on public debt.
The officials warn that any withholding of information or obstruction of the truth would be interpreted as a deliberate attempt by the government to maintain opacity and continue accusatory manipulation.
Finally, the CCR reaffirms its commitment to truth, justice and good governance, and calls on the authorities to demonstrate the same demand for transparency so that this matter is finally clarified.
