Diomaye, Sonko et l’affaire «Diomaye Président» : Mame Birame Watie assène ses vérités
At Pastef, the atmosphere has been tense since yesterday. This Wednesday, Mame Birame Watie, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Le Soleil, spoke out to express his views on the situation.
"Tired of the schemes, tired of the sleight of hand, disheartened by the fickleness of political actors, the Senegalese people have set their sights on Pastef, to whom they have given all the powers at the cost of enormous sacrifices. Ak fou rewmi toole ci ay jaafé jaafé, ak nignou FMI ak France taxawo, the priorities must be elsewhere," he insists.
In his op-ed shared via his digital platforms, he wanted to address his message to the two main parties involved: "To President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, if those who said yesterday that you didn't have the shoulders strong enough to lead Senegal are endorsing you today, it's because they hope to detach you from your political base. To Ousmane Sonko, whatever President Bassirou Diomaye Faye's record is, it will also be yours. You are the one who chose him," he said.
The last part of his message is reserved for activists: "For some Pastef activists, divergence is not opposition. Less radicalism leaves the door of reconciliation ajar. 'Diomaye moy Sonko' is not a slogan. It is a rallying cry that must continue to resonate for the hope it carries," he says.
As a reminder, the presidential movement has been shaken since yesterday, following a letter from President Diomaye dismissing Aïda Mbodj from the presidency of the Diomaye coalition. He also appointed Mimi Touré to lead the coalition's restructuring process.
For its part, Pastef stated that Professor Diomaye does not have the power to dismiss Aïda MBODJ. Furthermore, the party retorted, "Pastef and its allies do not recognize themselves in any initiative coordinated by Ms. Aminata Touré, with whom we share neither the same values nor the same principles."
Pastef adds that it intends to pursue its agenda consisting, on the one hand, of merging with allied organizations and on the other hand, of completing the APTE coalition, under the presidency of Ms. Aïda Mbodj.
