Diomaye Vs Sonko : Cheikh Tidiane Gadio préconise le limogeage du Premier ministre en cas de blocage
Sheikh Tidiane Gadio is calling on President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to "take responsibility" for what he describes as institutional dysfunction. A guest on the Grand Jury program this Sunday, March 8, 2026, the former foreign minister urged the head of state to restore order to the functioning of the institutions.
In his analysis, he points out that the Senegalese institutional system places the president at the center of executive power. "We have a president of the Republic. In the presidential system we have, the president is the keystone of the institutions. He is the one who decides in this country," he stated.
The former minister believes that internal tensions at the highest levels of government should not overshadow the management of national concerns. "We are in a situation where there were more problems to manage among themselves than the problems facing Senegal. And that is serious," he declared.
Without explicitly calling for a break, Cheikh Tidiane Gadio believes that the head of state must act if the blockages persist. "If his Prime Minister continues in the same vein and poses so many problems to the functioning of the institutions and the country (...), he asks his Prime Minister to resign," he declared.
According to him, several mediation attempts had already taken place without success. "I believe that, moreover, there have been all sorts of attempts at reconciliation and settlement over the past year. But the rot is so deep in the apple that perhaps we have to sacrifice the whole apple or find another solution," he concluded.
