Événements Politiques Du Weekend: La Classe Politique De Sedhiou Se Prononce

“If the opposition wants to thrive, people need to be much more serious. Officials are sending people to fight on their behalf. This policy of invective and agitation is unworthy of a responsible, democratic, and republican opposition,” insisted Cheikh Tidiane Diedhiou, head of communications for Pastef. According to him, this justifies the ban on the national demonstration, which was aimed more at preserving social peace than preventing delegated individuals from demonstrating.

For Yaya Diedhiou, a Pastef official, the opposition is playing its part, and the government is playing its part. Yaya observes that Talla Sylla, who during the Jef Jël era had virtually the same rhetoric as Sonko, has radically changed for reasons unknown. He believes that the Prime Minister has remained the same and has reminded the Senegalese people of the project's theme and the conditions under which he intends to implement it.

From the opposition camp, Omar Kante of the APR party stated that "These are incompetents who gathered at the meeting. People who justify their failure by the success of others. And they are led to believe that it is because others have succeeded that they have failed." According to the APR member, "the country is suffering and they allow themselves to organize this meeting." "That's why," he explained, "people, in order to repost, have engaged in their own national 'niakhtou' (a derogatory term for a person who is not well-off)."

Omar Kante is baffled that, given the high cost of living and electricity prices, Pastef can do nothing but fabricate stories and level accusations, especially against members of its own government. He considers it a non-event. In Sedhiou, the opposition organized a conference to discuss the political and economic situation in Senegal, highlighting that if there is a hidden debt, it has been uncovered in Sedhiou, alongside numerous other projects.

Doudou Ndaw, from the Marsassoum Youth Council, observes that "The country doesn't need all this political posturing with the high cost of living. Since the government has earned the people's trust, it must work to meet social demands; at least, that's what the Senegalese people hope for. This isn't the time for manipulation in the current context, especially since there was nothing new in the Prime Minister's speech, aside from the few missteps noted within his own government. What's the point of all this grand communication if there's no action to follow?" he asked.
