Francophonie : El Malick Ndiaye, 40 ans après Daouda Sow
The Speaker of the National Assembly, El Malick Ndiaye, has been appointed First Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie (APF). His candidacy for the position was approved "unanimously and by consensus" at the 17th Conference of Speakers of Assemblies and Sections of the APF's African region, held in Lomé, Togo, from April 7 to 9.
Le Soleil, which gives the information, taking up a press release from the APF, recalls that El Malick Ndiaye is the second president of the National Assembly of Senegal to occupy the position after Daouda Sow (in the chair between 1984 and 1988, deceased in 2009), elected a little over 40 years ago.
"This appointment will be formally ratified at the General Assembly scheduled for July 2026," the newspaper adds.
