GRÈVE DES ÉTUDIANTS : Les vérités de Thierno Alassane Sall au gouvernement
MP Thierno Alassane Sall is outraged by the situation facing the country's public universities and the stance of certain members of the government.
"The belligerent spirit, whose only policy is the suppression of all dissent, was bound to encounter resistance. The high-handed methods used against street vendors had already upset many Senegalese. The law can be applied, yes, but with education and empathy," said Thierno Alassane Sall.
For him, the statement by members of the government and Pastef party MPs, in a context of unrest across all of Senegal's universities, was irresponsible. It is perfectly in line with that of the Prime Minister, who compared Côte d'Ivoire and Senegal on the issue of student grants.
"It was February 21, 2025, from this very same podium in the National Assembly. For a party that claimed to be the voice of the voiceless, this spectacular about-face, undertaken with rare flippancy and profound contempt for student distress, amounts to a genuine provocation," he declared indignantly.
TAS added that for a party that elevates the cult of "martyrs" to a state religion and clashes with the defense and security forces to a quasi-constitutional norm, this new stance is now perceived as a betrayal. The psychological shock to many young people and their families is immense.
"The government must do everything to restore calm to campuses. Those who, under the old regime, raised their voices in such situations should speak out today with the same vigor," said the President of the Republic of Values.
Before strongly suggesting to students that they resort to forms of struggle that would expose them less to the risk of injury and violence.
