Guy Marius Sagna : « Nous ne voulons plus entendre dire qu’un étudiant a été assassiné… »
While UCAD is shaken by violent demonstrations linked to the non-payment of scholarships and the presence of law enforcement on campus, the majority deputy, Guy Marius Sagna, reacted firmly, recalling his warnings addressed to the government.
In a post published this Tuesday, the parliamentarian refers to the parliamentary committee's review, scheduled for November 7, 2025, of the Ministry of Higher Education's budget. He states that he alerted the minister from the outset of the discussions: "We no longer want to hear that a student has been murdered in Senegal for participating in a strike," he wrote.
For him, the current crisis at Cheikh Anta Diop University reflects the urgent need for swift action from the State.
He calls first and foremost for the immediate payment of scholarships, which he considers a right and not a favor, and urges the government to undertake structural reforms of the higher education system and the system for paying allowances.
In his post, Guy Marius Sagna also felt that the situation highlights the need for a new student unionism, more responsible and more focused on defending collective interests in a peaceful environment.
