Indépendance de la justice : Dr Yoro Dia tance le Pastef après la levée du bracelet électronique de Pape Malick Ndour
The court decision to overturn Pape Malick Ndour's electronic bracelet continues to provoke strong reactions in the Senegalese political landscape. The latest to speak out, Dr. Yoro Dia, former communications advisor to President Macky Sall, expressed his full support for the former minister.
In a forthright statement, Dr. Yoro Dia defended the independence of the Senegalese judiciary, while criticizing the Pastef party's attitude toward the judicial institution. According to him, after having tried in the past to "terrorize judges when it was in opposition," the party now in power harbors the illusion that it can influence judicial decisions.
“Two illusions that are now obsolete,” he asserts, affirming his confidence in a justice system he says he has never insulted, whether his party was in power or in opposition. This, he believes, is a way of reminding everyone that the credibility of the rule of law rests on the constant respect for institutions, regardless of political power dynamics.
This stance comes as Pape Malick Ndour, targeted by legal proceedings that led to the imposition and then the cancellation of his electronic bracelet, has decided to counter-attack publicly, denouncing what he considers to be unfair and politically oriented treatment.
