« Je ne vous rejoindrai pas dans votre tromperie » : Thierno Alassane Sall répond à Bamba Cissé à l’Assemblée
The debate surrounding the bill amending Article 319 of the Penal Code led to a heated exchange in the National Assembly between Interior Minister Bamba Cissé and MP Thierno Alassane Sall.
Speaking after the minister's intervention, the leader of the Republic of Values party sought to clarify his position and directly address the criticisms leveled against him. "I have been clear. It's as if there is nothing in our legal arsenal to combat homosexuality, while you have based your arguments on Article 319 to toughen it," he declared.
According to him, current legislation already allows for the repression of the practices targeted by the text. "Zoophilia and necrophilia have been prohibited by the Penal Code because they are acts against nature. I said you are completely wrong on this point. In our country, we already fight against homosexuality," he argued.
A rejection by the majority
Despite government calls to support the reform, Thierno Alassane Sall remained firm in his position. "I insist: I will not vote for this law," he declared to his colleagues. The MP also denounced what he considers the instrumentalization of religion in the public debate. "We must not hide behind religion to deceive the people," he asserted.
In response to the political attacks, he directly targeted the ruling party, PASTEF, as well as certain activists from the And Samm Jikko Yi movement. "Those who are now with And Samm Jikko tried to make me out to be part of Pastef. I will not join you in your deception," concluded Thierno Alassane Sall, in an exchange that illustrates the intense political tension surrounding this bill.
