Khadija Mahécor Diouf interpelle Ousmane Sonko sur deux modifications clés du Code électoral
Khadija Mahécor Diouf has reignited the debate on electoral reforms in Senegal, an area that Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko's government has announced it intends to modernize. In a widely shared video, she outlined the two key questions she would ask Ousmane Sonko if she were a member of the National Assembly.
Khadija Mahécor Diouf's first question concerns the government's intention to proceed "without delay" with an amendment to Article L57 of the Electoral Code. She specifically proposes removing the word "voter" from the article, a formulation which, according to her, creates ambiguities and opens the door to restrictive interpretations in the application of the law.
It also calls for the removal of articles L29 and L30, which define in particular the cases of electoral incapacity or the procedures for removal from the lists, articles which are often at the heart of controversies related to the eligibility of certain candidates.
His second question concerns a broader reform aimed at guaranteeing access to voting: "Is the Prime Minister prepared to amend the Electoral Code to make voter registration automatic?"
This proposal aims to ensure that any citizen with valid civil status documents is automatically registered to vote without having to take any additional steps. According to Khadija Mahécor Diouf, such a measure would strengthen democratic participation, eliminate administrative complications, and reduce the risk of exclusion for certain voters, particularly young people and rural populations.

Combien de Senegalais ont vu leurs numéros d'acte de naissance attribués à d'autres "Senegalais". A mon avis régler ce problème est plus urgent parce rien que son existence signifie que notre fichier électoral n'est pas fiable.
Pourtant purger les doubles numéro d'acte de naissance du fichier électorale est si simple à cette ère dedigitalisation.
