Poor timing is what several internet users criticized RTS and its director, Pape Alé Niang, for after the publication of a profile of the Minister of the Environment, Dr. Abdourahmane Diouf. In the national channel's comment section, many people criticized Pape Alé Niang.
The "PORTS AND FEATURES" section of RTS (Senegal's national television network) chose Minister Abdourahmane Diouf this Thursday to highlight his career, trajectory, and distinctive characteristics. While such a profile might have gone unnoticed or even been applauded a month ago, the current circumstances surrounding Abdourahmane Diouf have placed it in a different context.
Indeed, many Senegalese and members of the Pastef party saw another agenda behind the publication about the Minister of the Environment. He made headlines last week after controversial remarks about "victor's justice," national cohesion, and the imperative of forgiveness. Several Pastef officials and colleagues in the same government spoke out against him.
Following the RTS report, the director general, Pape Alé Niang, was also criticized by commentators. Some believe that this report, published just days before the Tera meeting organized by Ousmane Sonko (on November 8th), conceals an ulterior motive.
