Le budget 2026 du Ministère de l’Environnement adopté

The 2026 budget proposal for the Ministry of the Environment and Ecological Transition was adopted this Wednesday in a plenary session of the National Assembly. Of the 165 registered members, 128 participated in the vote, including 7 by proxy. Among them, 124 voted in favor, none against, and 4 abstained.

This budget, valued at 150,609,204,337 FCFA in commitment appropriations (CA) and 117,178,637,321 FCFA in payment appropriations (PA), reflects the ambition of the public authorities to strengthen the fight against major environmental threats: deforestation, loss of biodiversity, land degradation, pollution and the effects of climate change.

The fight against deforestation and land degradation is one of the key pillars of environmental policy in 2026. Programme 1 has an allocation of 25,605,960,925 FCFA in AE and 25,496,350,854 FCFA in CP.

These resources are distributed among: personnel expenses (8.84 billion FCFA), acquisition of goods and services (4.30 billion FCFA), current transfers (10.35 billion FCFA), public investments (approximately 1.7 billion FCFA in CP), and capital transfers (300 million FCFA).

This budgetary effort is aimed in particular at the preservation of forests, the restoration of degraded lands and the fight against abusive logging, particularly highlighted by parliamentarians in areas such as Casamance, the Southeast and certain border regions.

Programme 2, dedicated to the conservation of biodiversity and the management of protected areas, benefits from 8,672,335,212 FCFA in AE and CP.

A budget allocation is earmarked to strengthen the protection of wildlife and flora, improve the management of national parks and nature reserves, and modernize and secure protected sites. Of this allocation, over 6.17 billion FCFA is dedicated to personnel, 797 million FCFA to goods and services, 504 million FCFA to current transfers, and 1.2 billion FCFA to direct state investments. This budget line comes amidst a backdrop of several warnings, including the degradation of the Hann Zoological and Forest Park and the recurring bushfires, poaching, and human pressure on ecosystems.

The fight against pollution, environmental nuisances, and the adverse effects of climate change is the focus of Program 3, which receives an allocation of 9,631,120,132 FCFA. The majority of this funding (8.22 billion FCFA) is dedicated to government investments, demonstrating a commitment to taking concrete action on the ground through structuring projects, infrastructure, and adaptation and mitigation measures to address climate change.

Quel gachis
