Le collectif pour la défense des intérêts de Touba-Mbacké : « Pastef a trahi son serment »
The collective for the defense of the interests of Touba and Mbacké, bringing together the vital forces of the department, organized its official launch day yesterday at the Maison de la Jeunesse in Mbacké.
The event brought together several political figures, including Omar Ndiaye Angloma, Fallou Diop Madakaw, Khadim Tall of the PDS, Astou Gawane Guèye, Moustapha Messere, Amadou Diène Guèye known as General, Moustapha Seck Dianatou and Modou Birame Diop, among other leaders.
Former minister Oumar Sarr, president of the African Party for Liberal Renewal (PAREL), represented the Front for the Defence of the Republic (FDR) at this meeting.
“Since March 2024, Senegal has been regressing. According to economists, it will only be possible to correct the situation within 10 years. We need to invest in the field to raise awareness among the population about the issues and encourage them to register on the electoral lists,” said Oumar Sarr, former member of the Rewmi party.
Birth and motivations of the collective
Mame Mor Ndiouck, a member of the collective, explained the reasons for its creation: “The collective was born in Touba about six months ago, following an awareness among the youth of the Mbacké department, but also among the opposition political parties present in the department. The Mbacké department is being neglected.”
Several examples were cited to illustrate the government's lack of consideration for the department:
“During last year’s floods, we were shocked by the reaction of the Minister of Sanitation, Cheikh Tidiane Dièye, who openly declared that “nawéte bi du sunu nawéte” (this rainy season is not our rainy season). This is disrespectful to the municipality of Touba, but also to the Mouride community.”
Regarding the Magal of Touba: the Minister of Health had made commitments that previous regimes had always honored. He had declared loudly and clearly that the State had disbursed 800 million for the health sector. But to our great surprise, three to four months later, we realized that this promise had not been kept.
Mame Mor Ndiouck listed the main concerns: "There is a lack of infrastructure, a lack of support in the trade and crafts sector. But we have also observed with this government that they have no respect, no consideration for the people."
When questioned about the power struggle at the highest levels of government, the spokesperson for the group was categorical: "This power struggle doesn't concern us at all. We consider Diomaye and Sonko to be the same person. What saddens us is that, as President of the Republic and Prime Minister, their squabble is not the problem of the Senegalese people."
He concluded firmly: "Pastef has betrayed its oath, Pastef has betrayed its promises, it has not kept its commitments to the citizens."
The group is now calling on all the nation's vital forces to mobilize to defend the interests of the Mbacké department and the holy city of Touba.
