Le PIT Sénégal dénonce la gouvernance de PASTEF
Meeting by videoconference on August 23, 2025, the Central Committee of the Independence and Labor Party (PIT) of Senegal adopted a general resolution strongly critical of the current regime.
In its report presented by Secretary General Samba Sy, the PIT believes that PASTEF, both in the conquest and in the exercise of power, has locked itself into a "populism" guided by the maxim that "the end justifies the means."
The party denounces denials, manipulations and systematic attacks against republican institutions such as the judiciary, the press and the opposition.
The Central Committee said it was particularly concerned about attacks on public freedoms and signs of a "fracture at the top of the state."
On the economic front, the resolution highlights an "alarming" situation. The PIT accuses the government of having deteriorated relations with the IMF after the "reckless" announcement of a hidden debt, which allegedly plunged the country into a spiral of debt at high interest rates.
The party highlights the suffering of the population due to the high cost of living, the paralysis of investment, and the failure to settle domestic debt. Youth unemployment and the threat of a food crisis, a consequence of a poor agricultural season, are also highlighted.
Deeming the political and social outlook "bleak," the PIT calls for "a new direction" for the country. It encourages the Confederation for Democracy and Socialism (CDS) to continue its efforts to unify left-wing forces and welcomes the birth of the Front for the Defense of Democracy and the Republic (FDR), presented as a bulwark against the "dictatorial ambitions" of the current regime.
The Central Committee urges its departmental coordinations to strengthen the local anchoring of these structures and invites its affiliated organizations, notably the UJDAN and the UDFS, to rise "to the forefront of the Party's and the country's struggles."
The PIT also reaffirmed its positions on the international scene. It denounced the "barbaric crimes" committed against the Palestinian people, demanded an end to Israeli colonization, and reiterated its support for Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in the face of the "destabilization maneuvers" of the United States.
Furthermore, the party welcomed its international influence, marked by its participation in various left-wing congresses and events in Europe and elsewhere.
