Macky Sall à l’ONU : Guy Marius Sagna réagit à une supposée discussion Diomaye–Nguesso
The MP for Pastef (majority), Guy Marius Sagna, believed that Senegal should not support the candidacy of former president Macky Sall for a position at the United Nations, judging that such a choice would send, in his opinion, "a bad signal" in terms of human rights.
In a message posted on social media, the parliamentarian was reacting to information relayed, according to him, by Congolese media, according to which Presidents Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Denis Sassou Nguesso had discussed Macky Sall's candidacy during their exchanges.
"Senegal cannot support the candidacy of someone who encouraged the assassination of nearly 100 Senegalese and the imprisonment of thousands of political prisoners," wrote Mr. Sagna, adding that such support would be, in his words, "worse than a betrayal of our martyrs and our political prisoners."
The MP from the parliamentary majority also believes that such a decision would send "a bad signal to all dictators in Africa and outside of Africa," as well as "a crushing blow to people fighting for their freedom."
It should be noted that no official communication has been made by the Senegalese authorities regarding any possible support for the candidacy of former President Macky Sall for an international position.
