Mairie de Dakar : Souleymane Aliou Diallo revient sur la « cassure entre Barth et Khalifa » et la défaite de Taxawu Sénégal
Taxawu Senegal lost the Dakar mayoralty, now controlled by the ruling party, Pastef, through the election of Abass Fall on August 25, 2025. This entity had ruled the capital since 2009, under the leadership of Khalifa Sall, then Barthélémy Dias. A guest on the show Jury du Dimanche on August 31, 2025, Souleymane Aliou Diallo, a member of Autra Afrique and close to Khalifa Sall, analyzed the reasons for this political reorganization. For Diallo, this defeat resulted from "failures in the coordination of the Taxawu Senegal team and the particularly skillful political strategy of Barthélémy Dias."
He criticized Taxawu's management, noting that "Taxawu, who accuses Barthélémy Dias, should have asked his councilors to boycott the vote. Unfortunately, politics and sentimentality took over." He recalled that Khalifa Sall had once managed the town hall thanks to a solid team, but that "dysfunctions within the coalition" weakened Taxawu. Diallo praised the skill of Barthélémy Dias, who was able to rally councilors from different factions, but stressed that "Abass Fall has established himself as a real political beast, effectively managing members of Pastef and other coalitions."
According to him, Taxawu rested on its laurels without taking the necessary precautions in the face of Pastef's strategy. Finally, Diallo expressed his regret at the break between Khalifa Sall and Barthélémy Dias: "This division does not suit them and could harm them in the long term. With upcoming elections, particularly the municipal elections, they must remobilize their forces and overcome their differences to avoid further losses."
