Mansour Faye: Retour triomphal à Saint-Louis après sa libération provisoire
Ten days after being granted provisional release in connection with the Covid Fund case, Mansour Faye made a highly publicized return to Saint-Louis. The mayor of the 300-year-old city was greeted with great fanfare by an enthusiastic crowd who came to welcome him back after several months of detention in Rebeuss prison.
Upon his arrival, the Saint-Louis mayor, visibly moved, expressed his deep gratitude to the people of his hometown. "It is with great emotion and a heavy heart that I set foot on the land of Ndar, my beloved city, after my prison stay in Reubeuss. Saint-Louis remains this legendary city with its legendary téranga slung over its shoulder," Mansour Faye declared before a crowd of activists and supporters.
The former minister's procession was escorted from Louga by numerous supporters of Mayor Moustapha Diop. At the entrance to Saint-Louis, a sea of people gathered to give him a welcome worthy of a special occasion. Mansour Faye, who is enjoying judicial supervision, made a point of remembering his fellow inmates who are still incarcerated.
"I leave behind worthy figures who are living their time in prison with honor and courage," he said, citing, in particular, Farba Ngom, Moustapha Diop, Lat Diop, Maodo Malick Mbaye, Gérôme Bandiaky alias Sniper, as well as Papa Mahawa Diouf and the Gaindés Macky. He also sent a message of solidarity to the detained columnists and businessmen, inviting them to "arm themselves with a fighting spirit."
Grateful to his lawyers, Mansour Faye praised their professionalism and determination to prove his innocence. He also thanked the religious, traditional, and political authorities, as well as the many Senegalese who have shown him their support.
In conclusion, the mayor of Saint-Louis made a vibrant appeal to the Senegalese justice system, urging it to preserve its independence and ensure fairness. "The judiciary, the pillar of our country's stability, must remain strong to prevent injustice from becoming the rule in our beloved Senegal. As a great magistrate once said: when the law is spoken, justice smiles," he said to the applause of the crowd.
His return to Saint-Louis marks a new turning point in this sensitive affair, against a backdrop of political solidarity and popular support.
