Mbaye Dione questionne Birame Soulèye Diop sur les licenciements chez Talix Mines
MP Mbaye Dione sent a series of written questions to the Minister of Energy, Petroleum, and Mines, Birame Soulèye Diop, on Monday, regarding the dismissals for economic reasons of 62 workers at Talix Mines, a subsidiary of the Talix group (formerly EJL Afrique), based in Ngoundiane. This company, headed by Bara Tall and specialized in basalt mining for decades, is at the center of a controversy after dismissing these employees, who launched a legal procedure, denouncing a violation of Articles L.60 to L.64 of the Labor Code.
Mr. Dione questions the minister about his knowledge of these dismissals, their legal basis, and the regularity of the procedure, asking whether the dismissals are based on economic difficulty or an internal reorganization, as well as on the evidence provided by the company.
He also mentioned the promises made by Diop during his visit to Ngoundiane on 11 July 2024, in particular the reinstatement of Gecamines employees, and deplored a surge in layoffs in basalt quarries since that date.
The MP calls for solutions for workers, often fathers recruited after the allocation of agricultural land to Talix Mines, and calls for a balance between mining and respect for human rights, in the face of the negative externalities suffered by local populations.
Mr. Dione insists on the reinstatement of employees and awaits a detailed response from the minister.
