Me Aly Ndiaye à Diomaye et Sonko : « Mettez le Sénégal au-dessus de tout »
Lawyer Me Aly Ndiaye pleaded for the youth of the suburbs during an ''ndogou-debate' of the Movement for the Restoration of the Republic (M2R) held on Saturday, March 14, in Pikine Niety Mbars, opposite the grand mosque Elimane Kairé.
Organized during the month of Ramadan, this citizen meeting brought together activists, political figures and people around a central theme: "The role of Pikine youth in the economic and social development of the community".
The suburbs, more than just an electoral reserve
Speaking at the event, the national coordinator of the M2R, Aly Ndiaye, a lawyer, delivered a passionate plea on behalf of the youth of Dakar's suburbs. He argued that Pikine and its surrounding areas have for too long been reduced to a mere electoral base serving the interests of politicians.
"The suburbs have always been an electoral reserve. When the campaign period opens, all the politicians parade through the suburbs to get activists, but also thugs," he denounced, calling on young people to become aware of their demographic weight and their potential.
Mr. Ndiaye also wanted to correct the negative image often associated with Pikine.
“When we talk about Pikine, we think of crime, of everything negative. However, there are high-quality professionals in Pikine. The Limamoulaye high school is proof of that,” he recalled, advocating for positive discrimination in favor of the suburbs.
The choice of Djeddah Thiaroye Kao as the venue for this first edition was not insignificant. It is in this municipality that the M2R was founded, and most of its members are originally from there. "We wanted to connect with the people of Pikine during this month of Ramadan, as a family, with our brothers, our sisters, our parents," explained Mr. Ndiaye.
Among the problems identified are youth employment, unemployment, and insecurity in an area described as "crime-prone." The movement's stated objective is to raise awareness among young people and provide them with the tools they need to thrive.
Crisis at the highest levels of government: the M2R calls for dialogue
Aly Ndiaye also addressed the tensions within the ruling coalition, pitting supporters of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko against those of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. "There is a crisis within the presidential movement; we cannot ignore it," he acknowledged, while calling on all parties to come together around the essential issue: the development of Senegal.
As a sign of a desire for unity, a delegation from Pastef led by MP Matar Sylla was present at the meeting, alongside actors from the Diomaye Président movement.
"The essential thing is not Diomaye, it is not Sonko, it is Senegal," the lawyer concluded.
The former director of ONAS, Cheikh Dieng, was also among the participants in this meeting.
