Ousmane Sonko lève le voile sur ses « avis contraires » avec Diomaye Faye
The president of PASTEF, Ousmane Sonko, has clarified the misunderstandings that have arisen in recent days with the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye. Amidst growing questions among the public and party activists, the Prime Minister revisited the shared path that led the current majority to power.
“We have a difficult past. We fought this regime until we came to power,” he recalled, emphasizing the sacrifices and hardships endured by their political camp. The PASTEF leader, however, stressed the complexity of governing: “Power changes many things. If you haven’t prepared for it, it’s difficult. Power comes with temptation,” he declared, calling on his supporters to be vigilant and responsible.
For him, the observed differences should not be interpreted as a break, but rather as a normal consequence of assuming responsibilities. "When you reach positions of responsibility, there can be conflicting opinions," he acknowledged frankly. Ousmane Sonko admitted the existence of disagreements, both political and related to the management of the project championed by their camp. "Yes, both exist. That's why we need to discuss them within the party," he explained, specifying that the appropriate framework for resolving these issues remains the internal structures of the political party.
He also emphasized that PASTEF remains, in his view, "the main, strongest, and most structured party in Senegal," a status confirmed by the latest election results. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of respecting collective rules: "A party has a charter, rules, and a way of operating. The party will do justice and take responsibility. It will not chase after anyone, regardless of their status. Not even if it were me." Finally, he pointed the finger at the responsibility of certain supporters in the persistence of the controversies, stating that "sometimes, it is the party members who continue to fuel the debates."
