Plénière à l'Assemblée : Le député Barane Fofana accuse le régime de « cibler les fils de Matam »
MP Barane Fofana, a member of the Takku Wallu parliamentary group, stepped forward to defend former minister Moussa Bocar Thiam, asserting that "no oversight body has found him guilty." During his intervention in the plenary session on the draft resolution impeaching Moussa Bocar Thiam, the MP maintained that Thiam "took responsibility while serving the state" and that he could not be considered at fault in the absence of unfavorable findings from oversight bodies. According to the MP, the attacks against the former minister stem more from a political than a legal context.
Barane Fofana believes that "the legal proceedings initiated are part of a logic of revenge." According to him, it is easy to "understand that those who were on the other side and who are now in power hold a grudge against him." The MP sees this procedure as a clear political settling of scores. In the same breath, he made particularly harsh remarks about two members of the government whom he considers "the two enemies of Senegal today," namely the Minister of the Interior and the Minister of Justice. He added that they "have very bad intentions" before concluding: "May God not grant their wish."
Speaking about the situation in the north of the country, the elected official asserted that Matam had become "a target of the regime." According to him, this pressure stemmed from the region's political significance, presented as a historical stronghold of former President Macky Sall. He emphasized that "just because the regime never wins in Matam doesn't mean it should target its own people with the intention of imprisoning them."
Despite the prevailing tensions, Barane Fofana remains confident about the outcome of the legal case. He concluded his remarks by expressing his determination to defend the former minister, asserting that "Moussa Bocar will stand firm." The parliamentarian believes it is imperative to denounce what he considers the manipulation of the justice system for purely political ends.
