Salimata Dieng, deputy national secretary general of the Patriotic Youth of Senegal, has been dismissed from her position as a mission officer at the Presidency of the Republic. This was the result of a controversial Facebook post aimed at the government led by President Diomaye Faye and his Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. "Growing laxity," "a mute political office," "an accumulation of bad choices"... the "Pastefienne" has not held back on the country's management. Here is her Facebook post in full.
"PASTEF: Between the neglect of its youth and the forgetting of certain activists.
Since our party came to power, a bitter observation has become clear: a growing laxity is taking hold at the heart of PASTEF, once the most dynamic party in Senegal and Africa. The party that boasted of its exceptional human capital is now eroding its most precious assets: its activists, its youth, and its supporters. Very early on, the signs of an implosive cocktail appeared, undermining activist commitment:
1. Former prisoners poorly supported and forgotten.
2. Competent and trained activists left on the sidelines, without responsibilities.
3. Young people confined to the title of “mission manager” without any real missions or training for more than 18 months.
- What a waste!
Untapped talent raises legitimate questions about the rigor of profile selection and the quality of political management. How can we understand why departments dedicated to youth are entrusted to senior citizens? For example, the DER, which is supposed to target young people and women, should logically be entrusted to a young, innovative, and dynamic team.
As Joseph Stiglitz reminded us: "It is not conspiracies that ravage the world, but the accumulation of bad choices, futile policies, and injustices both small and large." It is therefore urgent to correct the trajectory, to develop a coherent and inclusive policy, to relaunch a social recovery plan that benefits the people first, but which must also be carried by a united and structured party. But what are we seeing?
A mute political bureau, without a clear direction, a party that relies solely on its president, Ousmane Sonko, reduced to taking all initiatives alone. Only the JPS (Patriotic Youth of Senegal) continues to propose and lead the debate, despite its limited resources. From Goudiry to Saint-Louis, from Fatick to Kaolack, via Dakar, Thiès, and Goudomp, it is the young people who hold the torch, and they deserve congratulations and encouragement. By 2027, this youth will be more legitimate than many current ministers or directors-general, who are often full of themselves and prone to political calculations. In politics, nothing is given away; everything is fought over. Our ambition is not pretension, but contribution. We risked our lives and carried out this project with conviction. Alongside the President, the youth have remained steadfast in their support for government action. Within our first two months in power, we submitted a strategic plan with four programs and 14 projects to President Sonko, which was expanded to the party's Secretary General. Fifteen months later, we've met with total silence. During this time, artists, campaign organizers, and influencers have been received, and we respect their contributions, but what about the activists behind the scenes?
The activist, especially the young, remains essential and a priority in a political party. As Elvis Adjahoungba said: "Youth represent the pillar of any nation. They must therefore see in every opportunity that presents itself a challenge and a chance to demonstrate their potential and commitment."
Salimata Dieng, Deputy National Secretary General of the Patriotic Youth of Senegal."

Bon courage Salimata
