"Reçus au Palais avec des enveloppes" : Ousmane Sonko accuse les "marchands de crise"
At the PASTEF congress held this Sunday at Dakar Arena, the party president, Ousmane Sonko, devoted a significant part of his speech to responding to those he calls "crisis merchants", accused of artificially maintaining the idea of a conflict at the top of the State.
After addressing the internal tensions that have shaken the party in recent months, the leader of the Patriots party stated that the time had come for clarification. "We have emerged from the first phase of clarification," he declared to thousands of supporters. According to him, far from being weakened by the internal turmoil, PASTEF has emerged stronger. "PASTEF is more than ever the largest political force in the country. If we have 54% of the vote today, we will have 75% tomorrow," he asserted. Ousmane Sonko also claimed leadership of the reforms undertaken since the party came to power. He recalled that the major projects related to the fight against corruption, justice, the renegotiation of strategic contracts, and the recovery of public assets were spearheaded from the Prime Minister's office. "During these months in government, the fight against corruption, for justice, for the renegotiation of our contracts, and the recovery of our assets was waged at the Prime Minister's office." "Everyone knows who wanted to break with the old practices and who now wants to restore them," he said.
The Prime Minister also addressed the issue of relations between institutions. He stated that some current misunderstandings were predictable, which is why the party had decided to hold a clarification meeting very early on. But it was above all his attack against those he called the "crisis merchants" that made a strong impression. Without naming names, Sonko accused certain individuals of profiting from real or perceived tensions between institutions. "These crisis merchants, who feed off this, who are received at the Palace and leave with envelopes of cash, want to make the Senegalese people believe that there is an institutional crisis. This is not the case," he asserted. For the PASTEF leader, the current power structure should not be interpreted as a confrontation between state officials. He insisted that the roles are clearly defined by the Constitution. "There is no crisis. This configuration is not synonymous with war." "The Constitution separates the roles between the Executive and the Legislative branches," he argued.
