Révocation pour opinions politiques : Mohamed Mbow dénonce un abus de pouvoir
The decree terminating the functions of the head of the monitoring office at the general secretariat of the Ministry of Employment, Vocational and Technical Training is causing controversy.
"The functions of Mr. Mohamed MBOW, Psychologist Advisor 2nd class, 1st grade, as Head of the Monitoring Office at the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Employment and Vocational and Technical Training (MEFPT), are terminated. Mr. MBOW is placed at the disposal of the Human Resources Directorate (DRH) of the said ministry," the administrative act states.
Mohamed Mbow, psychologist, advisor and president of the ADR, member of the Conference of Leaders of the Diomaye President coalition, confirmed that he had been dismissed from his position as Head of the Monitoring Office and Technical Advisor of the department by decision of Minister Amadou Moustapha Ndieck Sarré.
In a statement sent to Seneweb, the individual in question asserts that this measure follows two publications in which he expressed his personal opinions as well as his acknowledged political commitment within the ruling coalition. He describes this commitment as "known, public, and exercised without any professional misconduct."
For Mohamed Mbow, this decision constitutes a serious infringement on individual liberties. He points out that trade union rights and political rights are constitutionally guaranteed principles in Senegal. According to him, political affiliation or expression cannot justify administrative sanctions against a civil servant who has committed no wrongdoing in the performance of their duties.
"The measure I have been subjected to can only be described as an abuse of power," he argues, believing that it aims to punish beliefs and restrict freedoms protected by law.
While specifying that his situation is not comparable to the political persecutions known under former regimes, Mohamed Mbow nevertheless believes that such an act should no longer have a place in the public administration, especially in a context marked by a promise of rupture and democratic renewal.
According to him, the "new Senegal" cannot be built on fear, stigmatization, or the repression of opinions, but must be based on tolerance, respect for fundamental rights, and administrative neutrality. He therefore calls on political and institutional authorities to exercise greater restraint and responsibility in order to preserve citizens' trust.
Despite this decision, Mohamed Mbow affirms that he remains a civil servant, respectful of his professional obligations, while also remaining a free citizen true to his convictions. He assures that he will continue to fulfill these two roles "with dignity, legality, and consistency."
