"Sen yambar bi..." : Pape Djibril Fall enflamme l'hémicycle
The atmosphere was electric in the National Assembly during the question-and-answer session with Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. MP Pape Djibril Fall made a notable intervention, initially eliciting a smile from the head of government before adopting a more aggressive tone.
Relying on Article 63 of the Rules of Procedure, the MP addressed the presiding officer before launching a hard-hitting opening question: "Do you feel good in Senegal?", noting a blatant disconnect between the leaders and the daily lives of Senegalese people.
Pape Djibril Fall notably denounced the government's lack of seriousness on crucial issues. He criticized the Prime Minister's statement of November 10th claiming there were "no power cuts," emphasizing that this reflects a lack of seriousness in the face of the country's "real difficulties."
He mocked the government's figures, calling them "fragile" and manipulable, and accusing the executive branch of painting an optimistic picture without solid foundation.
He criticized the government for not having answers for sectors in crisis (students, laid-off workers, parapublic employees and Senegalese employed in foreign bases), even mentioning a meeting where 143 people allegedly explained their difficulties without being heard.
A central point of his speech was financial transparency. The MP demanded the immediate publication of the Mazars report, which reportedly indicates a debt estimated at 516 billion CFA francs.
He denounced a total lack of transparency, noting that "Since June 2024, no quarterly statistical report on the debt has been published. This is unacceptable."
In conclusion, Pape Djibril Fall directly questioned the Prime Minister about the investment promises in Bakel and Touba, estimated at around 8 billion CFA francs. Noting that "So far, we have seen nothing," the MP ended his remarks with a warning in Wolof: "Bayilene Sen Yambar Dji Nguène neké" (Stop your childish behavior/your boasting).
