Pape Toby Gaye, DG de Senelec : « Nous avons des problèmes de trésorerie, mais la situation est sous contrôle »
Senelec CEO Pape Toby Gaye clarified the national electricity company's financial situation, dismissing rumors of a deficit. "Senelec's financial situation is not in deficit. We are in surplus. I prefer not to give specific figures, as they are constantly changing and risk distracting the public," he explained. He clarified, however, that these figures relate to the 2024 fiscal year, with the 2025 results expected to be published soon.
Cash flow tensions, but the situation is under control
The head of Senelec acknowledged cash flow tensions, mainly due to difficulties collecting from certain institutional clients. "We sometimes have difficulty collecting our receivables, particularly from schools, town halls, and hospitals. But overall, we don't have a structural cash flow problem," he reassured. Under pressure from journalists, Pape Toby Gaye finally revealed a profit of 39 billion CFA francs for 2024.
In terms of outlook, Senelec plans to invest 1.4 trillion CFA francs to strengthen production and expand the national electricity grid. "We have several programs underway. In terms of economic performance, we are on the right track. Senelec is making progress every year," the CEO emphasized. Technically, Senelec currently has a production capacity of 1,903 MW, 70% of which comes from fossil fuels and 30% from renewable sources. The CEO specified that the General Studies Department is working closely with the government, which is defining its energy policy for the coming years.
