Succession de d'Antonio Guterres : Amadou Ba "vote" Macky Sall et lance un appel à Diomaye Faye
The debate over who will succeed António Guterres as head of the United Nations (UN) has taken a decisive turn in Senegal. The New Responsibility/Jamm Ji (NR/J) party, founded by former Prime Minister Amadou Ba, has officially endorsed the candidacy of former President Macky Sall.
Support for the African Union initiative
In a press release, Amadou Ba's political party welcomed the continental diplomatic efforts already underway. NR/J stated that it applauded "the initiative taken by the President of the Republic of Burundi, the current Chairperson of the African Union, to nominate President Macky Sall for the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations."
For the party, this candidacy is not just that of one man, but that of a continent aspiring to greater representation in global governance. NR/J sees it as an opportunity to open "a new stage in the recognition of Africa's role and contribution in building a fairer, more balanced, and more united international order."
Aware of the national political tensions, the party of the former Prime Minister urges Senegalese stakeholders to rise above the situation. Nouvelle Responsabilité thus invites all active forces to examine this issue with "a republican spirit and a pan-African vision."
The stated objective is clear: to carry this national ambition beyond partisan disputes by "overcoming internal political divisions and crypto-personal considerations".
Like other opposition parties in recent days, NR/J is holding President Bassirou Diomaye Faye accountable for his diplomatic responsibilities. The party "calls on the President of the Republic of Senegal and his government to fully support this diplomatic momentum for a strong African candidate to head the United Nations."
