Tera-meeting Pastef: Les "Patriotes" listent leurs attentes

From all corners of the country (Dakar, Ziguinchor, Saint-Louis, Kolda, Sédhiou, etc.), Pastef activists and supporters responded by the thousands to the call of their party leader, Ousmane Sonko. The parking lot of the Léopold Sédar Senghor Stadium in Dakar was packed with a huge crowd in the early morning. Waving flags and scarves in the colors of Senegal, they arrived early to reconnect with their leader and experience the vibrant atmosphere of Pastef's major rallies.

Brandishing a large portrait of Pastef leader Serigne Nar Niang, stuck on an iron barrier, his t-shirt dripping with sweat, he does not bend despite an awkward posture.

Living in the HLM housing project in Dakar, he arrived at the venue at 6 a.m. to get the best spot right in front of the stage where the Pastef leader was going to deliver his long-awaited message.

A few hours before the start of the Tera-meeting, the "patriots" are listing their expectations. "We expect him to give us the major guidelines for the future of the country. We expect strong announcements that can rekindle the flame of hope that we have placed in him and in the government," emphasizes Serigne Nar Niang.

High expectations, which he shares with Baye Diouf Gning, a teacher residing in Keur Massar. “I’ve been here for three days. What we expect from President Ousmane Sonko’s speech is, first and foremost, a call for reconciliation among patriots, fair justice, and a reduction in the cost of living. We want to see improvements in our living conditions. It’s true that a country doesn’t recover in two years, but we expect concrete actions,” he declares.

Alioune Gaye, for his part, has no particular expectations other than to see Ousmane Sonko on that platform in front of thousands of supporters. "We are not imposing anything on Ousmane Sonko and we are not demanding anything of him. We know his patriotism and we know that he will not make any decision that goes against the interests of the Senegalese people," he believes.

To those expecting a split between Diomaye and Sonko, Baye Diouf Gning vows they will be disappointed. "Sonko and Diomaye are one and indivisible," declares the teacher, reminding the pair that they have "an obligation to stay together," in accordance with their campaign slogan: "Sonko Moy Diomaye!"
