Thierno Alassane Sall : « J’ai eu honte pour le procureur » dans la crise à l’UCAD
MP Thierno Alassane Sall strongly criticized the handling of the recent crisis at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, expressing his profound disapproval of the reaction from judicial and university authorities. According to him, "It's ridiculous and all very well to sit here, put the police on trial, and say that young Abdoulaye Bâ shouldn't have been killed. Nothing has changed; we're witnessing the same scenario." He denounced a recurring climate of tension in universities, believing that Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko's promise of direct dialogue with the students had not been kept.
Regarding the tragic circumstances that led to the student's death, Thierno Alassane Sall stated that he was "ashamed of the prosecutor," who claimed that the emergency exits had been locked. The MP questioned: "Why didn't the students use the stairs but jump? Undoubtedly because they were forced to."
He also accuses the authorities of seeking scapegoats among the students, mentioning the prospect of legal action and expulsion for three of them, while emphasizing that these actions risk exploiting the crisis for political ends. The MP points out that the student revolt is rooted in the contested university reforms. According to him, "the leader is never wrong," and the message sent by the Minister of Higher Education that "the reform is all or nothing" deeply angered the students, who felt betrayed by the plan presented to them.
