Thierno Alassane tire la sonnette : «49% de ce qu’on va dépenser sera emprunté»
The budget marathon kicked off this Saturday at the National Assembly. The country's financial situation is at the heart of today's debates. "The 2026 budget shows that we rely far too heavily on external debt to function. 49% of what we will spend will be borrowed," Thierno Alassane Sall warned, speaking to the Minister of Finance.
The MP, however, emphasized that before lending money, donors ensure the country is stable. But he stressed that "friends of Senegal are beginning to worry, both here and abroad."
He believes the country is sliding towards a crisis that "could be a major political crisis, and those who should be investing their money in the country are hesitant to do so." He emphasized that it is no coincidence that the country's credit rating has been downgraded several times this year.
"What I am asking of those who have the responsibility to solve the problems of the Senegalese people (the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister and their majority) is that if they want to add a political crisis to this economic crisis, which makes it difficult for lenders to trust Senegal, this poses an extremely serious problem, a problem of responsibility," he insists.
