Tournée économique en Casamance : Hélène Tine salue une « vraie rupture » impulsée par le président Diomaye Faye
Invited to the program "En Vérité" on Radio Senegal, Hélène Tine, president of the Movement for an Ethics and Work Senegal, spoke at length about the recent economic tour of the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, in Casamance.
For the former MP, this presidential visit marks a profound break with past practices and sends a strong signal in favor of lasting peace in the south of the country.
According to Hélène Tine, the President's presence in Casamance addresses a major need: to consolidate peace and provide lasting reassurance to the population. She particularly praised the understated and pragmatic nature of the tour, noting the absence of the fanfare, t-shirts, and banners long associated with official visits.
"That is the real break," she asserted, stressing that the essential thing is not the artificial mobilization of crowds, but the real impact of the actions undertaken on the ground.
For the president of the Movement for an Ethics and Work-Oriented Senegal, economic tours should no longer serve as disguised political campaigns. She recalled that, in the past, these visits often took on a partisan character, even encouraging political defections. The current approach, she believes, is a clear departure from these excesses and strengthens the credibility of government action.
Hélène Tine also considers it normal that President Diomaye regularly visits Casamance to ensure the effectiveness of the instructions given and, if necessary, to adjust the decisions taken.
On the question of lasting peace, she is resolutely optimistic. While acknowledging the existence of some remaining pockets of tension, she believes that Senegal is now on an irreversible path towards peace.
She therefore advocates for an approach based on economic and social development, convinced that lasting peace requires structural investments.
"Casamance can once again become the breadbasket of Senegal," she argued, calling for massive investments in economic and social infrastructure alongside the continuation of the peace process.
In conclusion, Hélène Tine affirms that the foundations for a lasting peace have now been laid in Casamance, provided that political commitments are translated into concrete, visible and beneficial actions for the local populations.
