Une ancienne députée dénonce l’incapacité de l'exécutif : "La faillite d’un système ou l’impuissance d'une gouvernance à la dérive"
"Senegal, once a beacon of democracy in West Africa, is now going through a period of unprecedented turbulence. At a time when global challenges demand a clear vision and a firm hand, our country seems to be sinking into a leadership crisis where amateurism vies with indecision." This observation comes from former MP Maïmouna Sène, a member of the National Executive Secretariat of the Alliance for the Republic (APR).
She reminds us that, as an opposition aware of its responsibilities, we can no longer remain silent in the face of the executive's manifest inability to calmly govern our nation.
A university in mourning, a symptom of a repressive state
For the former parliamentarian, "the recent tragedy at Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD), marked by the death of student Abdoulaye Bâ, is the cry of pain from a betrayed youth." She added regretfully, "While the Pastef regime promised to break with the methods of the past, we are witnessing an escalation of police violence. The suspension of student organizations and the mass arrest of young people are not signs of strength, but rather admissions of an inability to engage in dialogue. You cannot govern a nation by suppressing its own youth."
We have an economy on borrowed time: between debt and denial
According to a member of the APR's National Executive Secretariat, "the economic situation is alarming. Under the guise of a superficial 'sovereignty,' the current government is leading Senegal towards a financial dead end. The debt: with a ratio nearing its peak (132% of GDP according to the latest audits), the country is suffocating. The high cost of living: despite promises of price reductions, widespread hardship is taking hold in every household."
Ms. Sène also mentions an "inconsistency at the top," insisting that "the country is watching, stunned, the tug-of-war between the Ministry of Finance and the Prime Minister's office over how to deal with the IMF. This dual command structure is paralyzing investment and driving away strategic partners."
The specter of the "ineffective duo"
A close associate of President Macky Sall continued: "Senegal is currently suffering from a crisis of authority. Who is really making the decisions? This unclear chain of command between the Presidency and the Prime Minister's office is creating a damaging institutional instability. The political agenda is no longer focused on managing the internal power struggles of a party, but on addressing the national emergency." For her, "the indecision at the highest levels of government is no longer just a rumor; it's a reality that is hindering public action."
A justice system and a press under pressure
According to the former MP, "the persecution of dissenting voices, the arrest of journalists and columnists like Modou Fall, prove that the current government has become trapped in a security paranoia. The promised break with the past has turned into a continuation of the worst practices: the manipulation of justice and the muzzling of the press."
Our appeal: the urgent need for a national awakening
Ms. Sène reminds us that "the opposition is not here merely to criticize, it is here to raise the alarm. Senegal is not a laboratory for populist experiments." She also demands: "the immediate release of prisoners of conscience and the opening of an independent investigation into the violence at UCAD"; "a sincere national dialogue, not a sham, to redefine economic priorities"; and "an end to the dual leadership at the highest levels of government, which prevents any calm and reasoned decision-making."
She did not fail to warn: "If the current government cannot ensure the security and prosperity of the Senegalese people, it must draw the necessary conclusions. Serenity cannot be decreed; it is built through competence and respect for institutions."
