Ville de Thiès : Le maire veut porter le budget à 10 milliards FCFA
The budget orientation debate (DOB) for the 2026 financial management, chaired this Friday, October 31, 2025, by Dr. Babacar Diop, Mayor of the City of Thiès, saw the participation of municipal councilors, representatives of civil society, professional organizations, sports and cultural associations, as well as people who came to discuss the main directions of the City's budget policy.
The mayor of the city recalled the importance of the Budgetary Orientation Debate, a fundamental exercise in transparency and citizen participation, allowing the municipality to integrate the concerns of the population into the budget planning for the year 2026. With regard to the budget framework, he welcomed the remarkable performances recorded since the arrival of the new municipal team following the Local elections of 2022.
The City's budget, estimated at 900 million CFA francs in 2022, was successively increased to 1 billion in 2023, 1.5 billion in 2024, and then to over 5 billion CFA francs in 2025, thanks to rigorous management and the crucial expertise of the Public Treasury and the Thiès Tax Services Center. The Mayor reaffirmed his ambition to increase the municipal budget to 10 billion CFA francs, an objective deemed achievable given the City's fiscal and economic potential.
These increased resources have enabled the implementation of a vast public investment program: modernization and densification of public lighting, return of traffic lights, road rehabilitation, scholarships and training, medical care, development of public spaces and regular support of various kinds.
For the year 2026, the Mayor of Thiès outlined several priorities related to improving the living environment, including the development of public spaces, street paving, the public lighting modernization program, road repairs, education and training, cultural and sporting activities, health, social services and support for religious communities, etc.
In closing, the Mayor of Thiès praised the quality of the discussions and took careful note of the concerns expressed by the people, with a view to their integration into the programming of the 2026 budget.
