Visite de l’AFP à l’Archevêché : Mbaye Dione salue la contribution de l'Église à la stabilité nationale
As part of the courtesy visits initiated by the new leadership of the Alliance of Progressive Forces (AFP) to religious authorities, a delegation from the party, led by its Secretary General, Deputy Mbaye Dione, was received in audience this Tuesday by the Archbishop of Dakar, Monsignor André Guèye, at the Dakar Cathedral.
Historical relations and a crucial role in stability
During the visit, Mbaye Dione recalled the historical ties between their leader, Moustapha Niasse, and the Senegalese Catholic Church, ties that predate the very creation of the AFP and have been perpetuated by successive cardinals and bishops. Mr. Dione assured them that this mark of consideration and recognition would be maintained for the good of the country.
He particularly emphasized the crucial presence and voice of the Church during difficult times and political tensions under various regimes: "The Church has always spoken at the right time, and its voice has been awaited and heard. That is why, in this context of economic and social crisis, with political tensions undermining the executive branch of our country, we want this authority, which embodies the unity of the entire Senegalese Catholic Church, to be able to make itself heard."
The MP reaffirmed the AFP's commitment to democracy, respect for freedoms and republican values, reiterating the party's commitment to a united Senegal, a peaceful Senegal, and social cohesion.
According to Mr. Dione, AFP intends to play a major role in promoting peace, a strong democracy and respect for differences among Senegalese people, as well as in deepening democracy and promoting the values inherited from Moustapha Niasse.
