Ziguinchor : Accueil mouvementé du maire Djibril Sonko par des agents
At Ziguinchor town hall, angry officials greeted their mayor this morning with chants and boos, as he was scheduled to chair a regular session. This was in response to the mayor's refusal to implement the July 15, 2025, circular from the Minister of Local Authorities, regarding salary increases. Djibril Sonko had to go through a back door to access the deliberation room.
The municipal council was convened for a regular session to discuss five items: general information; second special authorization 2025; financing of school canteens; agreement with the GRDR (Regional Regional Development Fund) and Niamone's landfill. The council meeting was convened at 9 a.m. and began its work after noon, due to lack of quorum, as several councilors were not present at the opening.
Three hours later, 44 of the 80 councilors were counted to begin the work. The absence of the 36 councilors sparked much comment.
