Cataracte : Dr Badiane alerte sur les charlatans des réseaux sociaux
On the occasion of World Sight Day, celebrated this Thursday, October 9, 2025, ophthalmologist Dr. Mouctar Dieng Badiane warns against the worrying rise of traditional practitioners who are proliferating on social networks with misleading advertisements promising to treat cataracts using traditional methods.
"Cataract treatment is exclusively surgical. No traditional remedy can cure it," insisted the specialist and coordinator of the National Eye Health Promotion Program (PNPSO).
Dr. Badiane denounces a veritable black market in eye health, maintained by individuals who, according to him, "make money off the backs of vulnerable patients." He calls on the Ministry of Health and Social Action to regulate this parallel sector, which endangers the visual health of many Senegalese.
In the same vein, he warned against certain risky practices, particularly among women who insert lenses into their eyes without medical supervision.
"The eye is a very fragile organ. These practices can cause serious infections and irreversible complications," he warns. He also points out that professionals can have lenses available and follow good practices. Between aesthetics and eye health, the practitioner encourages people to think about preserving their vision.
The specialist finally invites the population to be vigilant, to consult only approved professionals and to avoid any non-medical treatment.

Le Ministre de la Santé doit être le premier à monter au créneau pour arrêter ces pratiques dangereuses pour la population démunie surtout..
Ensuite le Premier ministre et le Président de la République qui doivent tout faire pour arrêter cette médecine traditionnelle pratiquement illegament dans notre pays.
D autres acteurs ne jouent pas leurs comme l ordre des médecins surtout, l ordre des pharmaciens.
Il y a aussi l Académie des Sciences qui ne joue pas son rôle.
Dans ce pays, les gens veulent occuper des postes de responsabilité sans vouloir prendre leurs responsabilités lorsque cela est nécessaire.
