The Regional Development Committee (CRD) preparing for the Gamou of Pire (Tivaouane department), scheduled for December 6, 2025 in a delicate health context marked by the appearance of cases of Rift Valley fever and dengue in the region, highlighted the importance of security and health measures to put the faithful pilgrims in excellent reception conditions.

"In a particular context marked by the appearance of Rift Valley fever, but also dengue fever, it is important, beforehand, to take all the necessary steps to ensure that the security and health aspects are in place," said the deputy governor of Thiès in charge of development, Ababacar Sadikh Niang, who chaired the meeting.

He stressed the need to respect all directives from administrative authorities and department heads in the health sector. Regarding security, "all measures will be taken to ensure the pilgrims are in the best possible conditions," reassured the deputy governor of Thiès, who also announced a communication and awareness campaign for the faithful.

Sanitation will also be a priority. "All measures will be taken to ensure the Gamou celebration is organized in the most successful way possible," promised Mr. Niang. He also announced a cleanup day on December 2nd in Pire, followed by an evaluation meeting the next day to determine the necessary hygiene and health safety measures.

The general Khalif of Pire, Serigne Pape Abdou Cissé, recalled that the Gamou of Pire, a historical event which is in its 123rd edition, is the emanation of the will of Cheikhal Seydi Hadji Malick Sy Maodo and Cheikh Tafsir Abdou Cissé.
