This weekend, the municipality of Fatick took a significant step forward in providing social protection for school children. One thousand students from the city's 14 primary schools received their health insurance cards under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) program, thus relieving the burden on many families facing healthcare expenses.
The initiative was spearheaded by Aly Thior, Secretary General of SAFRU and head of PASTEF-Les Patriotes, who last December signed an agreement with SEN-CSU to strengthen health protection in schools. The objective is clear: to reduce the impact of the disease on children's education and to preserve the financial stability of households.
The ceremony, held in the presence of local authorities, the Education and Training Inspectorate, health services, and the mayor's office, was marked by a strong turnout. Beyond its symbolic value, the initiative represents a concrete response to the difficulties faced by many families with the cost of healthcare.
Speaking at the event, Aly Thior emphasized that prevention remains the best weapon against health insecurity. For him, the CSU card is not merely an administrative document, but a genuine instrument of equal opportunity and dignity for the students who benefit from it.
The CSU-Students program would only be a first step. Other vulnerable groups, particularly the elderly and those with serious illnesses, could soon be included in this solidarity initiative.
With this action, Fatick confirms its commitment to placing social protection at the heart of its local priorities. For 1,000 families, this weekend already marks a decisive turning point.
