Journée mondiale du cœur : 33 % des Kaolackois guettés par l'hypertension artérielle
Thirty-three percent of Kaolack residents are at risk of high blood pressure. The warning came from Dr. Souleymane Thiam, head of the Cardiology Department at the El Hadj Ibrahima Niasse Regional Hospital in Kaolack, who was speaking on the occasion of World Heart Day.
The cardiologist reported that nearly 200 million deaths worldwide are due to hypertension. In Senegal, almost 30% of us are hypertensive. In Kaolack, unfortunately, we are above the national average, at 33%. "This is a real public health problem that deserves appropriate measures," explained Dr. Souleymane Thiam.
"Prevention means changing the paradigm. We've been explaining this to the population for years, but unfortunately, we realize that only 8% of patients are under control. This may mean it's due to the treatment. Prevention means changing the paradigm," according to the specialist.
