La première Dame Absa Faye inaugure un centre de transfusion sanguine à Kaolack

The First Lady of Senegal, Mrs. Absa Faye, inaugurated the Kaolack Regional Blood Transfusion Center (CRTS) on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. The ceremony was attended by the Governor of the Kaolack region, Amadou Moctar Watt, and other healthcare professionals. In her address, the First Lady stated that this major project was made possible thanks to the exemplary partnership between the Ministry of Health and the Luxembourg Embassy in Senegal.

This center addresses a critical need for the Kaolack region, aiming to strengthen transfusion safety and guarantee quality care for the population. "In a context where every minute can save a life, having a reliable, modern, and well-equipped facility represents a major step forward. Obstetric emergencies, the care of children, accident victims, and chronic illnesses are just some of the situations in which this center will become an indispensable support for our hospitals and for families," declared the First Lady.

She stated that this center is a symbol of collective ambition and will strengthen the health system, offering everyone access to a vital service and guaranteeing care under the best conditions.

For his part, the Regional Director of the Regional Blood Transfusion Center, Dr. Daouda Seck, emphasized the importance of having this transfusion infrastructure in Kaolack, which is located in central Senegal and serves more than three regions. According to Dr. Seck, Senegal receives 136,347 blood donations annually, while the WHO recommends 180,000 donations per year. The center will help bridge this gap, enabling the goal of 10 donations per 1,000 people. Laure Huberty, Ambassador for Luxembourg Cooperation, highlighted that health is the top priority of the fourth cooperation program between the two countries, which is now concluding. "This program had a budget of approximately 82 million euros, and the investment for the blood transfusion center (CTS) is around 400 million CFA francs." "We were able to respond to the needs of the Senegalese authorities, with the Minister of Health and the municipality of Kaolack, to establish a center that covers the entire chain," she explained.
