Lutte antitabac : l’OMS tire la sonnette d’alarme sur la dépendance du vapotage chez les jeunes
According to a new WHO report, global smoking is declining, from 26% of adult smokers in 2010 to 19.5% in 2023. However, one in five adults remains addicted to nicotine.
The WHO is particularly concerned about the rapid rise of vaping among young people: more than 15 million adolescents aged 13 to 15 use e-cigarettes. This phenomenon threatens to wipe out the progress made over the past 15 years in tobacco control.
The organization is calling on governments to close legal loopholes and subject e-cigarettes to the same restrictions as traditional tobacco.
Progress is uneven across regions: Southeast Asia has seen a sharp decline, while Europe remains the hardest hit. Africa has the lowest smoking prevalence.
