Lutte contre le SIDA : Le Dr Safiétou Thiam fait le point sur la situation réelle au Sénégal
Since the dismantling of a network involved in the deliberate transmission of HIV/AIDS, a certain amount of panic has gripped a segment of the Senegalese population. This climate has led many citizens to flock to testing centers to ascertain their serological status, some even going so far as to display their negative results on social media.
In response to this situation, the Executive Secretary of the National AIDS Control Council (CNLS), Dr. Safiétou Thiam, sought to provide reassuring clarifications while reiterating the principles of prevention. She urged every citizen to get tested as a preventative measure, emphasizing that knowing one's status remains the most effective way to break the chain of transmission.
Dr. Safiétou Thiam also sought to reassure the public by revealing that, despite the persistence of certain prejudices, the prevalence rate in Senegal is generally declining. Out of an estimated population of 18 million, approximately 47,000 people are living with HIV/AIDS in the country.
Among them, 39,000 people, including men, women and children, are currently registered and receive regular medical care.
These figures demonstrate the ongoing efforts of health authorities to support patients and stabilize the epidemic at the national level. The Executive Secretary of the CNLS concluded by emphasizing the need to combat stigmatization, which remains one of the main obstacles to effective screening and monitoring of patients.
