Octobre Rose : le PRDC-VFS mobilise la Vallée du Fleuve pour le dépistage des cancers féminins
Pink October, the global movement to raise awareness and combat women's cancers (particularly breast and cervical cancer), is in full swing in Senegal. This year, the Senegal River Valley Climate Resilience Project (PRDC-VFS), supported by the World Bank, is stepping up its efforts to promote early detection and treatment in rural communities.
For the PRDC-VFS, this initiative is fully in line with its commitment to the well-being of communities, particularly women, who are at the heart of local development. The project's approach is to decentralize prevention to make it accessible to all.
The PRDC-VFS is acting on several levels for this campaign:
* Support for services
health and local authorities in organizing screening camps and health education sessions.
* Close work with Health Districts, Departmental Family Services, Badianou Gox (traditional godmothers), Women's Promotion Groups (GPF), and community media such as URAC partner radio stations.
This year, specific activities are being supported in Pété, Boké Dialloubé, Méry, Bakel, and other locations. The goal is clear: to reach as many women as possible, offer free and accessible screening, and strengthen trust between women and health facilities.
Three essential messages to save lives
The project hammers home three essential messages to mobilize the entire community:
* Screening saves lives: The earlier cancer is detected, the greater the chances of recovery.
* Women's health is a development priority: A healthy woman means a stable family and a resilient community.
* Solidarity is our best tool: Men, religious leaders, local elected officials and young people must also be involved, because it is everyone's business.
The PRDC-VFS is making a solemn appeal to all women in the Valley: “Come and get tested, talk to your sisters, your friends, your neighbors.” And to men: “Support your wives and daughters in this process.”
The fight against breast and cervical cancer is a collective responsibility. The PRDC-VFS reaffirms that it will remain committed, alongside the World Bank and its partners, to ensuring that every woman in the Valley has access to dignified, preventative, and inclusive healthcare.
