Prévalence des violences basées sur le genre (VBG) : Matam affiche un taux de 36 %, parmi les plus élevés du Sénégal
The prevalence rate of gender-based violence (GBV) in the Matam region, which stands at 36%, is among the highest in Senegal, according to Bany Touré Dramé, the regional director of Family and Solidarity, who is sounding the alarm.
During a workshop held on the subject, she stated that "the situation of gender-based violence in the Matam region is worrying and is increasingly becoming a source of concern to which solutions must be found." In this regard, she emphasized the importance of collective commitment in the fight against this scourge, which is increasingly present in the region.
"This worrying situation, which calls on administrative and customary authorities and the entire community, is the source of several psychological and physical consequences, with physical abuse suffered by victims, but also economic repercussions," she said. She also advocated for "the alignment of synergies on the creation of a holistic center for the care of victims of GBV."
After having concocted a roadmap which was illustrated by a plea, the workshop participants called on public authorities, NGOs, territorial authorities and people of good will to make the project a reality.
