Sénégal : la consommation de tabac chute de 25 %
An international survey, the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) 2025, reveals a decrease of more than 25% in tobacco consumption among adults in Senegal, with only 4.4% of smokers.
This performance places the country among the African leaders in the fight against tobacco, praised by international organizations.
However, tobacco companies are now targeting young people with e-cigarettes, heated tobacco products, and other emerging products. Exposure to secondhand smoke remains a concern, particularly in bars and nightclubs.
Experts are calling for a strengthening of the anti-smoking law, by extending smoke-free public spaces and strictly regulating these new products to consolidate gains and provide lasting protection for the population.
