Senegal has just recorded its first confirmed case of Mpox, commonly known as monkeypox. Health authorities have launched investigations to identify people who may have been in contact with the infected individual.
"We have progressed in the investigation and have been able to identify a group of 25 contacts. That is, people who had contact with the confirmed case," said Mamadou Ndiaye, Director of Prevention at the Ministry of Health.
He clarified that these people are not sick, but they have been in contact with the infected person. The Ministry of Health, however, is required to monitor them for at least 21 days to see if any of them have developed signs of MPOX.
"We will check if they have a fever, if they have not developed spots, so that, as soon as something appears, we can act in time," adds Mr. Ndiaye.
