Variole du Singe (Mpox) : Le décompte passe à 4 cas positifs et 38 cas contacts au Sénégal
Yesterday, Wednesday, the Director of Prevention warned of the spread of the Mpox virus in Dakar. This Thursday, the Ministry of Health announced that new cases have been recorded.
"As of September 25, 2025, we have four (4) positive cases, including the first case who has recovered. So there are three (3) cases who are hospitalized in the infectious diseases department of Fann Hospital," said Dr. Amadou Sow, coordinator of the communication unit of the Ministry of Health. Reached by Seneweb, he reports that for the three cases in hospital, both are contacts of the second case.
Dr. Sow also reports that 38 contact cases have been detected to date. However, he clarifies that "contact case" does not mean that the person is sick. These are simply people who have been in close contact with the infected person, who must be monitored to see if they will develop the disease.
As for precautions, Dr. Sow recommends frequent hand washing with soap and water or hydroalcoholic solutions. He also recommends thoroughly cooking food such as meat, avoiding contact with people who are showing symptoms, and going to the hospital promptly if any unusual symptoms appear.
