Ziguinchor : Les agents de santé dénoncent des dysfonctionnements dans les hôpitaux
There is deep unease within the healthcare system of the Ziguinchor region. This is at least the opinion of the inter-union group representing healthcare workers at the regional hospital and the Peace Hospital. They described the operating conditions of the healthcare system in the southern region as difficult.
The Inter-union, through its general secretary Siméon Faye, urges the authorities to resolve this untenable situation since the beginning of 2026.
Because, according to union representatives, healthcare facilities are struggling to fulfill their primary mission: providing quality care to the population. And with good reason! Siméon Faye and his colleagues report a "lack of financial and material resources."
"The two hospitals have not yet received the final installment of the 2024 grant," Mr. Faye pointed out. This impacts patient care, as these hospitals often face disruptions in healthcare services, supply difficulties, and lead to increasing staff demotivation.
Union representatives also point to the delay in the disbursement of municipal grant funds. These funds, according to healthcare workers, have been expected since November 2025. Added to this are arrears in allowances, unpaid bonuses, and accumulated debt to suppliers.
The lack of a consolidated investment budget (BCI) allocated to healthcare facilities was also one of the demands raised by workers at the Peace Hospital and the Regional Hospital. These funds are essential for acquiring equipment and renewing medical supplies.
